As I take on new projects in business and my personal life, the thought of having the confidence to take these on comes across my mind. The book, Unstoppable Confidence by Kent Sayre was recommended to me by an acquaintance. At first, I thought another motivational book to read, and I’ve read many. Trusting in this acquaintance I picked up the book and found that it takes the whole concept of self-confidence to a higher level.
I recommend this for anyone who may be lacking in self-confidence, or may just want to strengthen what you already have. If you’re in a business, or just want to get ahead in your job, start to do public speaking or find the right relationship, this book will help out especially as we navigate the rough waters of this changing economy. I’ll confess that I didn’t know much about NLP, or Neurolinguistic Programming, when I got the book, so I was completely objective about that technique.
As I read the book, I underlined and highlighted a lot. There are some very powerful points about how the mind works, which is, I gathered, the key point in NLP. It’s definitely not a motivational type book full of hype to get you pumped up, as many other books of the same nature, on a superficial level only to be let down later.
This goes into the mind so that the reader can examine his, or her, own thoughts and understand what you’re doing and why you feel that way about it. As the author, Kent Sayre, says, we all develop thought patterns when we’re very young based on many external factors, like the Mass Media, our parents and the schools, among others, and how we react to them. Then we form our concept of ourselves and decide who we are. Many of these thoughts and beliefs are false and based on wrong conclusions we’ve drawn about the circumstances.
The book, in fact, starts out with the author’s journey from shyness to confidence and how he got over it. As he says: “Confidence is what I needed to follow my dreams.” It then goes into the origins of a lack of self-confidence, what is self confidence and the nine factors of unstoppable confidence.

Unstoppable Confidence: How to Use the Power of NLP to Be More Dynamic and Successful
One key take-away is that Confidence is a process; it’s not a one-and-done thing. Therefore, the book is more like a reference. It’s not something you can read once then put down and go on to the next book. There are many different exercises throughout the book and 21 specific techniques to develop confidence so you’ll want to keep the book handy and practice these periodically.
There are other sections on how a lack of confidence is blocking us from being truly successful and doing what we really want to do in life. It explains how the words we use are so important to how we think about ourselves that it talks about the language of confidence, or the vocabulary of confidence, and how to squash the negative internal dialogue that destroys confidence.
With all the exercises, techniques and explanations, I would recommend this book to anyone for building self esteem and confidence in your work, your business or your relationships. For learning how to be self confident I found it very helpful and it is certainly one book that won’t collect dust on my bookshelf.
